The Postdoctoral Program brings together postdoctoral fellows and Genentech scientists for their mutual benefit. The primary aim is for Genentech scientists to train postdocs to conduct research of the highest possible quality in scientific areas of interest to the postdoc and the company. A guiding tenet for postdoc research is timely publication in prestigious journals, after filing patent applications where appropriate. Postdocs are actively encouraged to present their research at internal and external meetings. Mentors are additionally expected to nurture skills in their postdocs that will enable them to develop into independent scientific investigators. Overall, the Genentech postdoc program is designed to create a vibrant and supportive environment for rigorous scientific training. Genentech benefits greatly from the program by gaining new ideas, techniques and cutting-edge capabilities.
