FAQs
Q: What is the difference between an internship and a co-op assignment?
A: An internship is a paid assignment for a student who has attained at least some academic preparation in a professional field. An intern may be an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. working in a professional setting under the supervision of at least one practicing professional. Assignments are typically full-time for 10-12 weeks and normally do not count for academic credit. A cooperative education (co-op) experience is a paid position which is typically completed by a student over more than one semester (often full-time work over the summer and part-time work during the school semester). It includes work assignments related to the participant's academic and career interests.
